The ALS Ice bucket challenge isn’t just about a bucket of ice being dumped over your head, whether you’re a billionaire or a social media reveler.
We Bandars know that something about getting your t shirt wet and cold is probably exciting, maybe not worthy enough for someone’s ‘bucket’ list though, but still, what the heck, dump that bucket already.

What started as a charity drive for people suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a neurological disorder, has quickly gone viral due to it’s inherent ability to bring out instantaneous funny reactions from celebrities and the aam aadmi alike.
The rules are simple: donate, nominate (who you want the challenge to be done by next), and dump that ice-cold bucket!
One thing’s for sure, Ice sales around the world have exponentially increased.
Hollywood had to get involved soon, with music artists like Justin Timberlake going under the bucket and “doing it”.
Oprah, David Beckham and Britney Spears are just some of other famous personalities who have jumped on to the ice bucket.
Anything they can do, we can too, and our very own Bollywood soon followed suit, kicking up that bucket!
The standard vine gurus on YouTube were up to their mischief as always too, with some classic fails thrown in.
But it’s not just all fun and games, and even something seemingly trivial as pouring a bucket of ice can make a difference in today’s cyber age.
Barbara Newhouse, President and CEO of The ALS Association, sums up the impact of the challenge in a few sentences.
“We have never seen anything like this in the history of the disease,” “We couldn’t be more thrilled with the level of compassion, generosity and sense of humor that people are exhibiting as they take part in this impactful viral initiative.”
“While the monetary donations are absolutely incredible,” Newhouse says, “the visibility that this disease is getting as a result of the challenge is truly invaluable. People who have never before heard of ALS are now engaged in the fight to find treatments and a cure for ALS.”
